Parents blamed World of Warcraft for sleepless nights of their geeky kids grinding quests in Xoroth world instead of grinding their world literature assignments. Geeks blamed World of Warcraft for the swine flu outbreak too (story here). Now, the Blizzard’s own geek has revealed that the World of Warcraft can be blamed for long time delay of StarCraft II release.

Though the initial  development of StarCraft II started on year 2002,  Blizzard’s VP Rob Pardo explained that one of the reasons that StarCraft II have been delayed for for these past 6 years is because the original design team concentrated on finishing up the development of World of Warcraft.  Nonetheless, he continued that they have have brought their long run experiences in WOW to the current StarCraft development as it nearly perfects the class balancing.

“It’s been a long project for sure, but if you look at say World of Warcraft, or Warcraft III – or even the original StarCraft – there was a halfway point where we took a dramatic left turn and took a different direction. We haven’t done that with Starcraft II.”
