The highly-anticipated MMORPG, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (WAR) is coming to MAC this Fall 2009. The WAR is widely known with its next generation unique Realm vs. Real (RvR) gameplay and rich end game content. If you want to immerse yourself in the ongoing epic war laced with dark humor and a lot of orc talk, just follow the step by step download and installation instruction guide after the jump.

1.  Go to Warhammer Online Website and click Downloads. Check your minimum and recommended requirements below:

Minimum System Requirements
  • Mac OS X 10.5.7 Leopard or higher
  • Intel Core Duo Processor
  • 2 Gigabyte RAM
  • ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM
  • At least 15 GB of hard drive space for installation.
  • This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).
  • Supported Video Cards
    • ATI Radeon(TM) series
    • X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600, 3870
    • ATI/AMD: HD 4850, HD 4870
    • NVIDIA GeForce series
    • 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800

    • This game will not run on the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.

2. When you think your MAC specs has passed the needed requirements, you can start downloading by clicking the Full Client Download or Trial Client Download as shown below.

3. After downloading the WarhammerOnline.app.zip, double-click the zip file. The Mac will expand it, give you a folder named “Warhammer Online” for the application.

4. Go to Applications, then click Warhammer Online icon to launch the Mythic Patcher as shown below

5. You must create an account first before you can proceed to download the required patch. If you have an existing WAR account for PC version and would like to play the Mac version, just enter your login and password to directly install the patch. Click on the Create Account to sign-up for a new account. Once the WAR sign-up page is loaded, enter the security text from the image to continue.

6. Enter your desired master account name, password, and your secret word hint, press continue to proceed

7. When you are done creating your account, you’ll be automatically logged in to your account management.

8. Go back to Mythic Patcher and enter your username and password to begin the patch process. Any patches needed will be automatically made through the launcher. Just make sure your have 7-10 gigabytes of space on your hard drive as the actual application size when I downloaded the full app +

WAR patches, had reached exactly 6.55 gig. It took me at about 12 hours to download all the patches, nevertheless, it depends on your PC specs and internet speed.

9. Once updates has been downloaded and patch is completed. Press the big PLAY button to start the game. Congratulations, the WAR has begun!

WAR F.A.Q.s

A. Is there a mirror anywhere that’ll allow people to download the entire package? The patcher is going extremely slow.

I don’t know of a mirror, but I do know a way to shorten the download if you have a PC Warhammer install.

First off, I take no responsibility if this breaks something.

  1. Download and install the Mac Warhammer Client
  2. Run Warhammer long enough that it starts patching, then cancel.
  3. Right click Warhammer Online, and choose “Show Package Contents”
  4. Navigate to Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program Files/Warhammer Online
  5. Copy the .myp files from your PC install to the folder you opened in step 4.  If your PC install is on your bootcamp partition, you should be able to copy the files normally.  If your PC is a separate machine, you will need to transfer them to the Mac via network file sharing, or via a USB drive.
  6. Close the folder, then rerun the game.

If step 5 is problematic, you can also use the game DVDs.   The .myp files will be under the “data1″ or “data2″ folders on the discs.

For me, I have a fairly old install from February that I found on my Vista partition.  I copied it over, and now only have 1217MB worth of patching to complete on my home machine.

B. Is there anyway to get mods to work with the Mac Beta version?

  1. Download your mode from, say, curse.com. You end up with a zip file. For example, StateOfRealmv5.1.zip, if you get the current version of State of the Realm.
  2. Double-click the zip file. The Mac will expand it, give you a folder named for the add-on. For example, for SoR, the folder is named StateOfRealm.
  3. Go to the directory containing your Warhammer client, right click on the client, and select “Show Package Contents”. That will open up a Finder window on the contents of the Warhammer client package. (Mac apps are actually stored as directories, not single files like Windows applications, but the Finder makes them look like single files to you. “Show Package Contents” basically lets you view the app as a directory).
  4. In the package, navigate to Contents -> Resources -> transgamig -> c_drive -> Program Files -> Warhammer Online. That is the directory that corresponds to the Warhammer directory on a Windows installation of Warhammer. Under this you will find an “interface” directory, and in there an “AddOns” directory. Simply drag your add on folder (e.g., the “StateOfRealm” folder if you are installing SoR) into “AddOns”.

C. How to install add ons via Terminal window?

  1. Open up a Terminal window.
  2. Type this in the terminal window (without the quotes): “ln -s “. Do not hit return, and make sure you don’t miss that space after the s.
  3. In a Finder window, open the Warhammer package, and navigate to the “Warhammer Online” folder.
  4. Drag that folder and drop it on the terminal window. That will enter the full Unix path to the “Warhammer Online” folder in the terminal. The terminal Window will now look something like this, with the exact appearance depending on where you are keeping the Warhammer application. Mine’s in /Applications:  ln -s /Applications/Warhammer\ Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program\ Files/Warhammer\ Online
  5. Type a space and some convenient name, that is not currently used for a file in your home directory, such as “war”, so the command you are about to enter looks something like this: ln -s /Applications/Warhammer\ Online.app/Contents/Resources/transgaming/c_drive/Program\ Files/Warhammer\ Online war
  6. Hit enter. This will make a “symbolic link” named “war” in your home directory, that links to the Warhammer Online folder inside the package.

When you now want to add an add on, or copy in interface settings from Windows, you won’t have to monkey around opening the Warhammer application package and navigating deep down. Instead, just open your home folder, and then go to your “war” folder. You can put your add ons in the appropriate place in there. Same for copying in interface settings, or for getting out log files.

D.   How do I keep playing the Beta Trial after level 10?

To upgrade your trial account to the full version of the game by purchasing a copy of WAR from a retail partner, follow these simple steps:

  1. Purchase a retail version of the game from any of our partners listed below.
  2. Visit the Account Center, choose “Activate a Key”, and enter your retail Product Registration Code. A valid credit card or prepaid Game Time card is required.
  3. Run the WAR trial client to automatically patch to the full version of the game.

The benefits of upgrading from a trial account to the full version of the game include:

  • Full, unrestricted access to all content in the game.
  • Full use of the Auction House and in-game mail.
  • Access to all game servers, and free trial character transfers to another server.
