You’ve seen the breathtaking action and beautiful detail of “Deceived” cinematic trailer of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Now,people felt like they have been deceived after they have seen the actual gameplay footage in the newly released SWTOR video documentary. Check out the common complains of fans around the interweb and the gameplay video after the jump.
What’s a Starwars game without some correct character rendering? The character rendering looks blocky and facial expression is stiff.
The graphics look hardly any better than Star Wars Galaxies, a 6 year old game.
The upcoming Aion Online and Champions Online have so much better graphics
Aesthetic pleasures will always be short-lived but game lacks fundamental aspects needed to entertain
Inspite of all these comments, we can’t judge yet whether or not the entire game is lackluster when we haven’t seen the entire game yet. What do you think about this Star Wars troopers?

The video footage is from a very early build of the game. Its for testing out interface elements. You don’t see polish until the game gets closer to a beta release. Anyone who’s followed an MMO knows this.
Maybe I watched a different trailer, but its obvious to me what they’re doing with the graphics. They’re doing the same thing WoW did. They’re making a cartoon-esque art style so they won’t have to update graphics every year. If they were to make the graphics cutting edge like Champions Online, the graphics will look very outdated almost immediately. If you think I’m wrong, look at the textures of the armors. You can tell polished metal from dingy metal from cloth from leather. Personally, I like the style that they’ve shown. Even if I didn’t like it, I grew up playing the Mario games, the Mega Man game, the Castlevania games. Half the time I couldn’t even tell what I was fighting, but it didn’t matter. Those games were ground breaking and fun. I only hope this game is as well! Good luck, BioWare! It won’t be hard, but blow Star Wars: Galaxies out of the water!
hmmm heres the thing the new star wars is going to be story based… MMMASSSLLLY story based which is awsome. the people who are complaining about graphics obv havnt followed star wars games and are just like 90% of the gaming comunity. Were as they see graphics and awsome gameplay in videos and then they pay for the game and realize its the same thing they were playing with a 2% visual increase. So if u know anything about sw games its never been about graphics just story. even galexies was somewhat story based once u hit what u want it was all story cause farming was pointless.
The guys are making a game with a story bigger than 10 star wars novels, all voice overred with an insanely huge world and innovative gameplay mechanics and the damn idiots complain about the graphics? Well, guess what is wrong with the game industry!
-__- I can still stand to play Kotor on my olod as hell Xbox so I think these complainers could learn to play this. I mean the graphics aren’t that bad.
it might be because this isn’t the finished product yet. they still have time to improve on it before release. the other games you mentioned area already finished products (Champions is using the old City of Heroes/Villains system) using an older game engine, interface and system.

Graphic looks outdated. Looks like the Bioware guys are either slacking of or in rush to release the game.

The animations and graphics are better than Champions Online. The combat in SWTOR actually looks fun too.
