wordofwarcraft-vs-facebook

Sony is currently celebrating the 10 year anniverasary of their award-winning online fantasy RPG “Everquest”. They recently revealed they are developing a brand new MMO exclusively for Facebook community. They even predicted that this new MMO market might topple the World of Warcraft down. As what one critic says, “The Sony’s analogy is almost like saying that there will eventually be a more popular band than the Beatles. I have yet to see a band that’s more popular, and they haven’t been together since 1970″. Hmmmm..Spice Girls perhaps?

“At some point someone will dwarf those numbers with a game. If we can get passed some of the barriers that are keeping people from playing with their friends, just because their friends happened to start the game before they did, and maybe started on a different server or whatever, if we can start to get rid of some of those social blocks, I think it can get even better.” -  Ryan Barke, lead designer of Everquest

Note: The Facebook “poke” feature allows one user to virtually poke another and few believes some sort of  flirting. People often reciprocate pokes back and forth until one side gives up, an event known as a “Poke War.” “Skullfish Soup” is an item in World of WarCraft MMO which restores 7200 mana over 30 sec.

Great concept, a Facebook MMO. However, I doubt if this would ever contest WoW’s dominance. 11 million isn’t something to sneeze at.
