The Microsoft has come under fire from its members over their implemented policy in Xbox Live for gamertags that are offensive and queer. If you use your real surname like “Gaywood” or scientific word “HomoSapien” as your gamertag, you’ll be barred from using it and even force you to change it before you can login to Xbox Live. This is what irked the gay community as they feel this banning policy is very discriminating and homophobic. So last Saturday July 18, the Electronic Arts and Microsoft, as well as other representatives from gaming industry had a conference panel to promote anti-homophobic policies . According to gaygamer.com key rep Flynn DeMarco, the founder of website devoted to “boys who love boys who love joystick”,  has convinced Microsoft to implement a feature which gives gamers ability to identify their sexual orientation through their profile accounts in Xbox Live. I have nothing against them. They have every right to be happy and gay in virtual world, just like any other typical gaymers errr gamers out there.

It’s just a word, however I would just care more about the gaming experience then the players name.

what i only worry are the younger gamers, tagnames like “ilovetosleepwithboys” or “imgaygrabmyjoystick” or any other double meaning game tags might upset them or their conservative parents, or maybe categorize the gay, lesbian, etc. under ADULT section? Everyone has a right to be heard, but there’s no law to force everyone to listen, right? So i believe it’s the same case with this issue, everyone has a right to express their sexuality through their profiles however doesn’t mean you can broadcast your profiles to anyone or add them to your friends list when the recipient disables adult or sexual related in xbox live

I’m for that since being gay or lesbian is double edged. People are more easily to accept a female tagname like “i eat boxes” and think that’s fine, but a male gamer under “Ifondlejoysticks” is going to get banned. Lesbians seem to have it easier, since gaming is male-dominated, at least when it comes to complaining. Despite them not argeeing to sexual perferences before, once they allowed you to put male or female then had voice chat, sex has been a big part of the X-box live world since. Why not at least give them a reason to discriminate openly if they can read a sex and sexual orientation ahead of time instead of finding out later?

Well, the reason why it’s not even allowed to have such gamertags is because people use them to joke around. Why can’t the gay community focus on dealing with that first and then deal with this? Not only will you have more gay/lesbian gamers playing, but there’ll be more people abusing the right. Soon you won’t be able to tell if such a gamertag is a joke or not. :/

I’m just happy I don’t have to start putting **** references in my gamer tags to let girls know I’m not interested :P

Honestly, I’m not too worried about it. I’ll start worrying when they put a racial sexual preference.

I just hope sexuall,y they let you click or have the option for ‘both’. Bisexualism *cough greediness cough* exists too.
