Do you still remember the Tamagochi handheld digital pet that millions of people got hooked on it sometime on 1996. Even the parents at that time were very upset about the Tamagochi hype because the minds of their kids were so occupied at all times with the conditions of their virtual pet –as it can get starve, sick, and even die. Anyway last June 18, the Nintendo released a new DS game called “Tomodachi”, which simply means friend connection. Its gameplay is like a crossover of Tamagochi and The Sims game, in which one of the highlight features is that they can import their Mii avatars from Nintendo Wii console to their Nintendo DS portable. So they can manage or play their Mii-based digital self everywhere any time and it can even interact live with other Mii characters from other co-Tomodachi fans via wifi internet connection. Check out how the Tomodachi is selling like hotcakes in Japan after the jump.
According to Media Create, the Tomadachi sales report is off to a flying start in Japan with 102,000 sold. There is no release date announced for North America yet.
Below is the Japanese sales charts for the week ended June 21, 2009, courtesy of Gamasutra.com:
| LW | TW | Title | Publisher | Platform | Weekly Sales |
| NEW | 1 | Tomodachi Connection | Nintendo | DS | 102,000 |
| NEW | 2 | Fate/Unlimited Codes Portable | Capcom | PSP | 34,000 |
| 2 | 3 | Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days | Square Enix | DS | 27,000 |
| 3 | 4 | Sloan to MacHale: Nazo No Monogatari | Level 5 | DS | 15,000 |
| 5 | Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G (PSP the Best) | Capcom | PSP | 14,000 | |
| 4 | 6 | Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth | Capcom | DS | 11,000 |
| NEW | 7 | Akira Tago’s Mind Exercises Vol. 1 | Level 5 | DS | 10,000 |
| 8 | 8 | Wii Fit | Nintendo | Wii | 10,000 |
| 5 | 9 | Koei’s Shin Sangokumusou 5: Empires | Koei | PS3 | 9,000 |
| 18 | 10 | Pokemon Platinum | Nintendo | 7,000 |
By the way, I’m just wondering if their Mii-self could possibly meet the fate of death just like the Tamagochi? But do you know there’s bizarre cemetery in Japan where you can literally bury the actual Tamagochi hardware unit.
