Brandon Routh, widely recognized for playing the titular hero in 2006 film Superman Returns, recently attended the San Diego Comic-Con and just like the hottie Megan Fox, he has proved his geek cred during an interview with MTV Splash Page’s Rick Marshall. He has revealed that he’s a true-blooded gamer and even plays the undisputed MMO king “World of Warcraft”. Brandon is apparently excited about the upcoming movie adaptation helmed by Sam Raimi and might look forward to join the cast as long as there’s kick-ass sword fighting. Though his “Superman Returns” movie didn’t do well at the box office, his performance as the man of steel is at par with the iconic Christopher Reeves. I’ve also seen his comedy movie “Zack and Miri Make a Porno” and i think he’s fairly decent character actor. If he’s looking for a menacing role with a sword, he can perfectly play the character of Arthas Menethil, the crowned prince of Lordaeron who later became one of the most powerful and evil beings Azeroth would ever experience when he merged with the Lich King. Brandon can now throw away his super cape and pull out the sword of Frostmourne. Hail to the king, baby!

No one yet has beat World of Warcraft in the MMORPG race and expect it to continue to dominate the genre in next 5-10 years. I admit that I haven’t yet played the game yet but considering how massive and rich the universe of World of Warcraft quite excites me.  It also makes me anticipated on how to they would bring the Horde and the Alliance characters to life like in the silver screen. World of Warcraft is said to mimic the fantastic elements of the popular Lord of the Rings series of books, so you would expect it to go near the vision of the LOTR movies as well.

Masi Oka, who played a space-time manipulator geek in NBC “Heroes”, has conceived a movie titled “The Defenders” for Dreamworks. It revolves around Online RPG gamers from all parts of the world and they never envisioned that a certain mission given to them would make them super heroes in real life. Masi Oka professes to be a big fan of World of Warcraft” and also revealed they are also making a game based on the movie.

Oka, who will exec produce, came up with idea while playing MMORPGs — massively multiplayer online role-playing games, in that world’s parlance.

“You can be whoever you want to be,” he said. “The question came to me: What if you had to live up to the person you created in the virtual world?”

Oka had met Kurtzman and Orci, whose Kurtzman/Orci Prods. is based at DreamWorks, at parties and taken a couple of meetings with them, hoping to score a role in one of their movies.

The pair was looking for “the kinds of movies that Amblin used to do, that combined an innocence with the adventure,” Orci said.

Added Kurtzman, “We are staunch believers there are ways to update the tone of these movies.”

Once Oka, also a fan of those movies — epitomized by “The Goonies” — learned that, he pitched Kurtzman and Orci his idea. The duo went for it, and Oka has honed the concept for the past year, collaborating with them as they worked on “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.” Kurtzman/Orci’s Mandy Safavi also helped develop “Defenders” and will oversee for the company.

Oka and Whitta, who also plays online games, bonded over their love of the medium’s “World of Warcraft.” Kurtzman and Orci ensnared Caruso, with whom they worked on the 2008 thriller “Eagle Eye.”
